They often include feature enhancements and security updates to protect Windows from malware and malicious attacks. During the process of updating, we usually come across some problems need us to repair. The most common reasons are minor issues like connection timeouts and small interruptions between the computer being updated and Windows Update servers. Method 1: Ensure the Internet connection
If you are not able to gain access to web sites, you need to check your Internet connection. Check wiring in general or contact your Internet service provider.
Method 2: Enable Windows Firewall and disable other third-party firewalls
You can enable Windows Firewall by referring to the following three steps: open the Start menu and select Run; in the Open box, type firewall.cpl and press Enter; on the General tab make sure that ‘On’ is selected or just follow the interface instructions to switch Windows Firewall on.
As for disabling other third-party firewalls, you may need to refer your third-party firewall’s documentation or contact vendor support for help on how to do this. Once you have done, try updating Windows.
Method 3: Temporarily turn off any third party anti-virus application
You might render your PC invulnerable to attacks by malicious software in the duration that the anti-virus software is turned off. Here are the steps: open the Start menu and select Run; in the Open box type wscui.cpl and press Enter; the Windows Security Center window will display and this window will give you information on all anti-virus and malware protection tools installed on your computer.
Check the ‘Malware Protection’ or ‘Virus Protection’ option and disable them. You might want to consult the product’s documentation or contact the software vendor by doing this and try Windows Update now to check if the issue is resolved.
Method 4: Disable any installed accelerators
Accelerators like download accelerators, Internet speed accelerators are known to interfere with normal functioning of Windows Update. So disable them before performing the update.
